Merge tasks

I often end up with redundant tasks on my task list, but rather than deleting one, I want to merge them. For example, one task might have a link back to an email that I starred, and another might be something I captured somewhere else. I want to keep the details of both but only have a single task.
Please don't follow the Asana UI for merging. It sucks.

    Agreed. I also have several cases where I need to merge tasks:

    • Created the same tasks at two different moments (I've a bad memory ;-))

    • At least 1 task from Trello was somehow created twice in Akiflow (not sure why) with exactly the same title

    • Sometimes I created a task manually, but then this same task was also created from a starred Gmail email, so I'd like to merge them.

    What Sara said is what I'm like aww do i have to go back and redo it. Because I just created a task and I know I'll get similar emails, for it.

      Stefania: There are many different use cases. Here are a couple of them:

      1. There are multiple pieces of information in a slack thread and I want to "save" them so they pulled into Akiflow but then I want to combine them because they're all really just one task.
      2. I end up with duplicates in Akiflow. For example, I add a task via Option+Space and at some other point I add that same task by starring and email or marking something in Slack. Since I don't remember if it's already in Akiflow, I err on the side of getting it all into my system but then I have duplicates that I want to merge. Sometimes, yes, I can just delete one of them but sometimes — because they come from separate sources — there is information in each task I want to keep.

      Stefania: I'd like to have this option as well as the ability to merge multiple tasks by converting them into a slot, ideally from the list view in addition to the calendar. I wish I could merge tasks into a slot in the list view, then add them to the calendar. That way, I don't have to schedule a slot before I know how long the tasks will take. Ideally, the time for the slot could be calculated from the total time for all the tasks. It would be great to have the option to add some wiggle room for shifting from one task to the next.

    Merge Tasks – to merge task descriptions and subtasks in the description

    I often end up with similar tasks or pieces of the same task (different aspects of the same thing that needs to get done), or tasks of different level (i.e. one task is to “create presentation” and another task is to “ask team to send photos for team slide for the presentation”) or same tasks “Finish landing page” where in one task I had 10 sub-tasks in description and now I planned again to “Finish landing page” and created another sub-tasks (e.g. fix buttons, check all the links, etc.). And when I review my tasks I noticed that I already had this task “Finish landing” with different sub-tems some of which were finished others were not done yet. So, want to merge all such tasks and merge their descriptions, including sub tasks that are given in the descriptions.

    Now, I have to do this manually and copy-paste descriptions – why do I have to do this manually in 2026?

    Ability to Merge Incoming Emails into Existing Tasks

    Currently, when importing an email from Outlook into Akiflow, a new task is created. However, there are many cases where an email is related to an existing task rather than requiring a new one. It would be highly beneficial to have the ability to merge an incoming email with an already created task to keep things organized and avoid duplicate tasks.
