I would also like to see events on the upcoming view (so if there's like "whole day conference", I know not to drop any other tasks onto that day). I usually just have 1 or 2 big events in a day.

This issue is now 2 years 3 months 4 days old. I'm currently exploring if Akiflow can replace Sunsama and this is a glaring gap.
As a user, I need to be able to see what my total committments for the day are. To do this, I need a system that accounts for both tasks and events.

This is really important - we definitely need to be able to easily see the total hours of events planned for each day, as well as total hours of tasks.
Our time is finite - and currently only task hours show, but some events we don't have control over.
This functionality would better help us to plan a day and not over-schedule.
One step further would be to enable a way to quickly include/exclude calendars - i.e to see the total number of events and tasked locked to a work calendar vs a personal. The reason being - a work day is normally set hours, and we want to block time within that. Personal might run into the evening. A combined view of work and personal all the time would show a greater total that might make it hard to schedule just for work.
